Understanding Probability
Probability is the measure of how likely an event is to occur. The result is always a number between 0 and 1, where:
- 0 means the event is impossible.
- 1 means the event is certain.
For example, the probability of flipping a coin and getting "heads" is 1 out of 2 possible outcomes, or 0.5 (50%).
Example Calculation:
If you want to find the probability of rolling a "4" on a standard six-sided die:
- Number of desired outcomes = 1 (rolling a 4)
- Total possible outcomes = 6 (the numbers 1 through 6)
The probability is 1/6, or approximately 16.7%.
